Republicans have been lobbing that “class warfare” meme at President Obama ever since he said that the wealthiest should pay their fair share in taxes. It’s pretty funny, considering the idol of the GOP, one Ronald Reagan, also thought the same way.

We’re going to close the unproductive tax loopholes that allow some of the truly wealthy to avoid paying their fair share. In theory, some of those loopholes were understandable, but in practice they sometimes made it possible for millionaires to pay nothing, while a bus driver was paying ten percent of his salary, and that’s crazy. […] Do you think the millionaire ought to pay more in taxes than the bus driver or less?

So many times we hear the right tout Reagan as standing for everything the GOP stands for today but the fact is that Reagan wouldn’t fit into today’s Republican Party. It was Ronald Reagan ‘>who raised taxes during a recession to get the job market hiring again AND IT WORKED! It was also Reagan who raised the national debt 189%:

But none of these facts matter to the right. They have developed a vision of Reagan in their mind that is nothing like the real man. They even attack some of Reagan’s closest friends and allies for suggesting anything else. How is that not the same as dancing on the grave of the man they consider their icon?
