Howard Dean is proving to the seasoned members of the DNC that fighting is
what they need to stay alive.

“People want us to fight, We are here to fight.”

That is what Howard Dean told the DNC Executive Committee in a meeting on
Saturday morning, and it could not be more truthful. The fact is the DNC needs
to fight and fight hard.

If we learned anything from the last two Presidential elections, it’s that
passive campaigning is not what the voter looks at. No wonder George Bush one,
he has that John Wayne, cowboy attitude that we all love. He symbolizes what a
Hollywood President would be. True it is sad that in a time when high action
movies are the box office leaders, that we have to associate the reality of our
President to the ones made up in Hollywood.

Republican’s have been outraged over Dean’s remarks this week calling Tom
Delay a criminal and characterizing the Republican party as the party of “white
Christians”. He was not saying that only white Christians belong to the party,
or if you are a white Christian then you must by default be a Republican. He was
only stating a fact that the majority that makes up the Republican party is
white Christians. Now the Republicans seem to be hurt over that fact.

Of course, it is also being used to discredit Howard Dean’s efforts as the
Chairman of the DNC. Now it is being said that he should focus his energies on
improving the DNC and stating their platforms, instead of bashing the
Republicans. Nothing can be further from the truth.

Howard Dean has been the chairman of the DNC for three months now, and has
already made changes. He is increasing the parties resources in all 50 states,
and also making sure they have a viable staff. He has also almost doubled
contributions to the party, as compared to the same time period in 2003 when
Terry McAullife was chairman (the last year he was chair during a
non-presidential year). Let’s not forget that Terry was brought in as chair for
being an expert at raising funds.

Most importantly, Howard Dean has taken on a crusade that should be the
highest priority to every American, regardless of party. He wants to make sure
when you exercise your right to vote, that it is counted. Something the last two
Presidential elections have proven, without a shadow of doubt, not to exist. He
is making a statement that the DNC stands behind the people of the country, and
not it’s businesses. He wants to make sure that when any of us goes into that
sacred booth and casts our ballot, that it is counted and counted right. He also
wants to make sure that everyone has the chance to vote. This is evident by his
efforts to get more lawyers and law students available on election day to give
advice and oversee the election process. We are fighting for democracy in the
world, but how can we spread democracy when we don’t even have it at home?

The truth is, Howard Dean is a great asset to the DNC. He has come at a time
when the Republican’s are loosing support amongst the people and is trying to
light a fire under the party to get them involved. There is no greater time than
now for the DNC to start building it’s base and make it a larger foundation than
the Republican’s currently have. As the ground slips away from the Republican’s,
the DNC needs to be there to provide footing to the ones staggering away.

I applaud Howard Dean and his efforts to get the DNC in the spotlight. They
are working well. If we have learned one thing from the last two Presidential
elections and from the Republican’s in general, it is that the best way to get
to the people is to light fires under them, even if that means smearing your
opponent some!
