Just in time for midterm elections comes a political move
that will hopefully revive the dwindling support of the right. That move is
called “Operation Troop Withdrawal”.

General George Casey said today we could start seeing a
“substantial” pull-out starting as early as next spring. Iraq’s prime-Minster
has asked for a speedy withdrawal of US troops also (view

here).

This comes as no real surprise. The Pentagon released a
report a couple weeks ago about this same thing. The ironic part of it is that
only a month ago there was no chance of a timetable or a near future pull-out.
My how things change in a short period of time!

Now we are in a position to start planning a pull-out and
it can’t make you wonder if the insurgents won’t just sit back and wait us out
like the President has said. I am stuck wondering what we are going to do to get
these Iraqi troops trained so fast now. It has taken us two years to train 2
battalions, now we are going to train the remaining 147 within a year? If it
means republican control of Congress, you can bet on it!

We are a little over two weeks away from the deadline for
the Iraqi constitution, so I guess we will see more in that period of time.
