Crooks and Liars
has an excellent video from Inside Politics today. Seems since the

Washington Post
came out with a front page article today verifying that
Valerie Plame’s identity was indeed being kept secret, the RNC is going to have
to review and possibly change their first talking point about the entire
situation.

The RNC has been standing by stating that Valerie Plame’s
identity was not secret at the time of the report and there is no crime
committed because of this. Now that we know she was in fact being kept secret,
Republican Strategist Rich Galen has set his sites on the prosecutor himself. He
said Ken Fitzgerald could very well be an out of control prosecutor and later
referred to him as “our guy” when countering Democrat Strategist Paul Begala.

It is funny how the Republican’s defense in this matter
keeps getting shredded so they have to find new lies and smears to go after. Pat
Fitzgerald was nominated by Bush to be assistant Attorney General and confirmed
unanimously by Congress. Furthermore, he was appointed by John Ashcroft to lead
this investigation. The RNC should realize it is not a good idea to try and
smear the prosecutor who could very well be mountain a case involving treason
against your prodigal son, especially when you are the ones that brought him
into this investigation.

As another part of this story from the

Washington Post
today, a small part of it also discredits the RNC talking
point regarding Wilson lying about his disproving the Niger Claim.

The description of Wilson’s wife and her role in the Feb.
19, 2002, meeting at the CIA was considered “a footnote” in a background
paragraph in the memo, according to an official who was aware of the process.

It records that the INR analyst at the meeting opposed
Wilson’s trip to Niger because the State Department, through other inquiries,
already had disproved the allegation that Iraq was seeking uranium from Niger.
Attached to the INR memo were the notes taken by the senior INR analyst who
attended the 2002 meeting at the CIA.

Before long the RNC will just have to do a whole rewrite
and make the talk show circuit again.
