House GOP leaders have scrapped plans for a joint
investigation into the Katrina response. The decision came about because of
Democrats refusal to put anyone on the panel. While this may seem like Democrats
are the culprits, actually it is the other way around.

The Democrats are set on having a independent commission
investigate the hurricane response. They share the same sentiment as a majority
of the public, per recent polls. The Republican plan involves a partisan panel
in which the Democrats would have no powers to subpoena.

Hopefully the Republicans will realize a need to
investigate the response and decide to go ahead with an independent commission.
If they do not then it proves they are trying to cover up some failings on the
highest level – the White House.

We can be sure to expect a spin machine attack from the RNC
on this as they try and finger the Democrats as the bad guy. I never knew you
were a bad guy when you were trying to avoid a cover up, but I am sure the RNC
feels you are.
