WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States is still unprepared for another
inevitable terrorist attack after not doing enough to improve communications
for emergency personnel and bolster security at nuclear plants, the heads of
the former September 11 Commission said on Sunday.

Former commission chairman Thomas Kean said preparing for another attack
has not been a high enough priority for President George W. Bush and
Congress.

“A lot of the things we need to do really to prevent another 9/11 just
simply aren’t being done by the president or by the Congress,” Kean, the
former Republican governor of New Jersey, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

This is not new news. This is something we should of been talking about since
Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast and exposed America to its weaknesses. The main
weakness is our lack of preparation.

The defense the President’s people have been arguing is that it was the worst
natural disaster in the country’s history. I won’t argue that, but 9/11 was the
worst attack on this nation also. Katrina should have been treated no different
than a nuclear or chemical attack in a large city. Instead the devastation was
ignored by George Bush. Why is that? Perhaps he thought it would just go away
and not expose our weaknesses.

It pisses me off when I hear Republicans talking about al Jazeera playing
sound bites from Democrats calling for a troop pullout in Iraq. They say that it
emboldens our enemies. How about the simple fact that we have not prepared this
country for another attack? That should be something that really emboldens our
enemies and has them preparing to attack us again. We have been exposed as weak
and vulnerable and that is a great asset to a bunch of thugs like al Qaeda.

The worst part of this is Bush has no reason to try and prepare us now. He
doesn’t have to worry about re-election. He is a lame duck President who can sit
idly by while this country goes down a road to certain doom. Instead of worrying
about tax cuts for the rich or screwing with social security, he should worry
about national security and securing the homeland. Unfortunately the President
suffers from ADD and couldn’t stay focused on those priorities long enough and
instead we will most likely pay for it with more American lives. Thanks
President al JaBushy!
