Well that was quick:

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal says he will seek to succeed fellow Democrat Christopher Dodd in the U.S. Senate.

Blumenthal tells The Associated Press that he will announce his candidacy at noon Wednesday at Democratic headquarters in Hartford.

This really softens the blow of Dorgan’s announced retirement last night. With Dodd running, it was looking like we would lose that Connecticut seat. In a heavily blue state that would be a very bad thing. Now with Blumenthal running, the seat should become a strong Democrat seat. In other words, the Dorgan retirement pretty much got negated by this.
