Another follow-up on the fire that destroyed Touchdown Jesus in Ohio last night. Darlene Bishop, co-pastor of the statues church had this to say in response to the destruction of their 1/4 million dollar eye sore:

“I think he (Jesus) couldn’t have gotten this much advertising if we had paid a billion dollars,” she said Tuesday.

So now we have Jesus needing to buy ad time. Maybe he can get a sports stadium named after him, or even sponsor a NASCAR driver while we are at it.

This highlights the major problem with Christianity today. It isn’t about preaching the word, helping the needy or even raising the spirituality of others. Today’s Christian churches are nothing but businesses, who worry about the bottom line. Does this “person of the clothe” seriously believe that the Jesus the Bible talks about would appreciate her statement? I highly doubt he would and she should really reconsider her view of what happened.

Adding… The statue was made mostly of Styrofoam, a carcinogenic when it burns. I wonder how many firefighters and other people were exposed to that last night? Is that worth the advertising for Jesus? If so then it’s yet another reason I’m a proud Atheist.
