Tucker Carlson’s Childish Games

Earlier this week the gossip site Phawker posted an email exchange between Stu Bykofsky of the Philadelphia Daily News and Keith Olbermann. The exchange started with this email from Keith Olbermann:
“Dear Stu,
Since you’re obviously a moron, I won’t waste your time or mine writing more emails you clearly can’t understand. But I do want to correct one of the numerous errors of fact in your email: Phil Griffin did not suspend me. He doesn’t have the power or frankly the courage to do so. Once I had been (very) temporarily relieved of my duties by NBC management, Phil got on the phone to some of your fellow idiot TV columnists and tried to claim credit.
As if.
I could have Phil Griffin fired tomorrow if I felt like it, trust me. And if he keeps yapping about me in public, I may. For the moment, however, keeping Phil around is like having a drunk chimp in the office — more amusing than threatening.
Feel free to correct the record in your ‘column.’
KO”
There’s one problem though. Keith didn’t write that email. Instead it was bought by former MSNBC host and now FOX contributor Tucker Carlson. Back in June Tucker bought the domain name keitholbermann.com and used the email address [email protected] to send the emails. Tucker has even admitted sending the emails and is laughing it off as good humor:
Carlson, reached by phone Tuesday night, confirmed he impersonated Olbermann in the email responses to Bykofsky.
“Could you resist?” Carlson said. “It was just too funny. The flesh is weak.”
Carlson said he didn’t expect the email exchange to be published.
(emphasis added)
So Tucker didn’t expect the email exchange to be published? You got to be f-in kidding me! This is the same guy who went out and published all those emails from Journolist a few months ago to “show liberal bias in the media”. Does Tucker think his fake emails are granted more protection than those of some private mail list?
But I am wondering why MSNBC let it get this far. Why haven’t they sued Tucker to get the domain name taken away from him? This is a common practice with known names and the courts generally side with the actual person instead of the person who bought it. Perhaps MSNBC will learn their lesson and now take Tucker to task.
