Tis The Season For Huge Layoffs

Nearly 15,000 jobs will soon be lost in North America, with our country taking the biggest hit.

We’ve been hearing about how Donald Trump was bringing back manufacturing jobs as part of his “Make America Great Again” hubbub. But that doesn’t seem to be the case, at least for close to 15,000 North American GM employees.

GM announced today that as part of their restructuring plan they will close up to 5 plants and layoff 14,700 blue collar and white collar workers in the next year.

Reported plants are in Ohio, Michigan, Maryland and Ontario. The Ontario plant accounts for 2,500 of the nearly 15,000 jobs that will be lost.

The Lordstown plant in Warren, Ohio should really hit home with Trump. This is right outside Youngstown, where Trump held a rally last year and told the people “the jobs are coming back”. Well, guess that is not the case.

While Donald Trump thinks he can take us back to the blue collar industrial age of the 50’s, the economy and world is chugging full steam ahead in the 21st century and what is happening at GM is becoming an all to common story. What we need now is leaders who will help educate and retrain American workers for the new era. If that doesn’t happen and we continue to believe Trump, then America will be left behind.
