Americans Are Watching Rove!

So now the standard has been lowered. Anyone breaking the
law will be fired from the administration. This varies quite a bit from the
comments the President made in 2003 stating that anyone involved would be fired.
So why the change now?
I don’t think it could be because the President found out
Karl Rove and Scooter Libby is involved. I am sure he already knew that, and if
not then he would have a certain feeling of betrayal that they never informed
him of their involvement. Actually looking at the new change it seems to provide
even more security to Karl Rove and Scooter Libby.
The process going on now is to determine if a law had
possibly been broken. In other words, the federal grand jury is kind of acting
like investigators. This is one of the processes that make violation of federal
law a long and tedious process. If they find that there is enough evidence to
bring charges forward, then you got to go through the entire criminal case. This
means that even if Karl Rove and/or Scooter Libby are charged with a crime, it
could be years until we find out if they are innocent or guilty. In other words,
it provides them job security that will most likely last throughout the
remainder of the President’s term.
Now for some sobering news regarding this that may take the
White House by surprise. The spin machine of the right has been down laying this
whole issue by saying that Americans outside the political beltway aren’t that
concerned over it. A new
ABC News poll shows just the opposite. As matter of
fact, a poll conducted of 1,008 people last week show that 53% of those polled
are following this case closely. This should come as no shock as this could turn
into the Watergate of our time.
Another interesting point brought out in the poll revolves
around the White Houses cooperation in the matter. 25% of those polled believe
they are while 47% believe they aren’t cooperating fully. This is a flip-flop
from September of 2003 when 47% believed they were cooperating and only 37%
believed they weren’t.
This is more proof that the leaking of classified
information is a crime that the people of this country take very seriously. It
also is more proof that the once finely tuned, high performance spin machine of
the Republican Party is starting to fail under stress. The Democrats have the
political “ball†in their court and now is the time to play it right. With the
mid-term elections only 15 months away and campaigns soon to start, the
Democrats need to take this newly found political capital and use it to once
again regain control on Capital Hill.
All in all, this whole issue now lies in the hand of what
could be considered the most important man in Washington right now, one lonely
district attorney who is now the deciding factor in a case that has started
consuming the American people. I will have more on that person later.
