Very Serious Gas Prices Questions For The Very Serious Republicans

Posted 2/22/12 at 1:36pm by jamie

With gas prices going up daily the Republicans are using this as an attack against President Obama. Right now Drudge is pushing an article talking about $6 a gallon gas in Florida as his main story. The story does explain the cause of the price increases, however:

One reason for the high prices is the conflict with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has threatened to disrupt oil shipments through the waterway due to the European Union sanctions leveled against the country over its nuclear program, causing the price of crude to skyrocket. Trading on a barrel of crude today is a little over $106.

Another reason for the high gas prices: positive economic news. The drop in the unemployment rate and improved housing market numbers have caused gas and oil prices to rise.

Now reading those two problems, I want to pose these two questions to the Republicans out there:

The GOP's War On Women #893878

Posted 2/16/12 at 3:06pm by jamie

Seriously?

This morning, Democrats tore into House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) for preventing women from testifying before a hearing examining the Obama administration’s new regulation requiring employers and insurers to provide contraception coverage to their employees. Republicans oppose the administration’s rule and have sponsored legislation that would allow employers to limit the availability of birth control to women.

Ranking committee member Elijah Cummings (D-MD) had asked Issa to include a female witness at the hearing, but the Chairman refused, arguing that “As the hearing is not about reproductive rights and contraception but instead about the Administration’s actions as they relate to freedom of religion and conscience, he believes that Ms. Fluke is not an appropriate witness.”

So an issue involving women first and foremost and the sexist GOP won't let women testify? When people on the right wonder why we have a second term of Obama and more Democrats in Congress, look to the constant racism and sexism by the GOP for proof.

The GOP's Sickening Use Of Rape

Posted 2/16/12 at 10:16am by jamie

It takes a very sick and demented individual to think of rape as a tool for jokes or insults, but that's exactly what the GOP does over and over again. The latest example was last weekend at CPAC when drunken fat fuck Andrew Breitbart decided to call a bunch of occupiers 'rapists'. Last night Keith Olbermann decided to take him on:

Raw Story adds this part to the story:

After DailyKos founder Markos Moulitsas appeared on Olbermann’s show on Tuesday and accused Breitbart of “mak[ing] stuff up,” Lee Stranahan of Big Journalism demanded an on-air retraction and apology. He cited a list of 17 news stories of rape and other sexual crimes at “Occupy” protests.

But Olbermann said that list include some stories twice and could not be attributed to the “Occupy Wall Street” movement. In four of the stories, he noted, neither the victim nor the assailant were even associated with the protest. In seven other stories, the protesters were the victims, not the assailants.

These assholes are taking one of the most horrendous crimes and using them as a political tool. Welcome to being in the same mentality as terrorists, you pricks! There is a very, very cold place in hell for monsters like you.

Time To End The Separation Clause?

Posted 2/15/12 at 3:02pm by jamie

Over the past several years we have seen churches throwing themselves more into the political landscape. Today we see it even more:

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Wednesday that she didn’t consult with the Catholic bishops on the latest version of the contraceptive coverage rule.

At a Senate Finance Committee hearing on the Obama administration’s budget request, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) pressed Sebelius on which constituencies the administration consulted before announcing its changes to the contraception rule.

“I did not speak with the Catholic bishops,” Sebelius told Hatch. “I know that the president has spoken to the bishops on several occasions, yes.”

The church views the separation clause as one way; the state can't tell the church what to do, but the church can tell the state what to do. This is not how our founding fathers envisioned it and is a very real danger to our democracy. Actually, if you think about it, it's bringing us closer to the same type of tyranny that the pilgrims fled England from all those centuries ago.

So I say it's time to remove that whole clause and make the church play by the same rules as everyone else. They have already pushed the envelope for too long and it's time for a change.

GOP Offers Healthcare Amendment That Would Deny Care To Interracial Couples

Posted 2/15/12 at 1:47pm by jamie

Utterly disgusting:

The measure, proposed by Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) would amend the Affordable Care Act to allow any employer to exclude any health service coverage, no matter how critical or basic, by claiming that it violates their religious or moral convictions. Moreover, according to the National Women's Law Center, the amendment would remove critical non-discrimination protections from the Affordable Care Act. For instance, an insurer could deny maternity care coverage to a same-sex couple, an interracial couple or a single woman for religious or moral reasons.

So what if I decided that I wanted to exclude healthcare coverage because someone is a Catholic or even a Republican? Somehow I got a feeling these closed minded twits would be up in arms over that, screaming discrimination at the top of their lungs. But this is just exactly how sick and twisted the Republican Party of today has become.

Conservatives Just Love Wasting Our Tax Dollars

Posted 2/10/12 at 11:13am by jamie

One of the darlings of conservatives is up in arms over saving money:

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) fired up the crowd at Thursday's Conservative Political Action Conference with red-meat rhetoric the right loves to hear.

The five-term lawmaker, who faces a tough reelection bid this fall, accused President Obama and House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) of forcing top-down priorities on Americans.

"I want my liberty back," King declared Thursday, earning strong applause from the crowd.

King compared the Capitol Hill janitors who replaced the lightbulbs in his office with lower-energy bulbs to the East German communist secret police, describing them as "Nancy [Pelosi]'s Stasi troops," and complained of a water-saving showerhead in his shower.

So doing things that will save the government money is the equivalent to being a Nazi? If you think conservatives really are what they say, you are sadly mistaken. That's why the GOP is in such disarray today. No one knows what they really stand for!

Rep. John Fleming (R-Duhhhhh) Pans The Onion As News

Posted 2/6/12 at 5:27pm by jamie

Did you hear about that $8 billion "abortionplex" Planned Parenthood is opening? Well Congressman John Fleming (R-La) sure did and he even went to Facebook to complain about it:

But apparently the rock Fleming already lives under doesn't realize that The Onion is a satire site. Here's the original article:

Planned Parenthood announced Tuesday the grand opening of its long-planned $8 billion Abortionplex, a sprawling abortion facility that will allow the organization to terminate unborn lives with an efficiency never before thought possible.

During a press conference, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards told reporters that the new state-of-the-art fetus-killing facility located in the nation's heartland offers quick, easy, in-and-out abortions to all women, and represents a bold reinvention of the group's long-standing mission and values.

You can read the rest of it here. What really amazes me is that if Fleming was so pro-life then why wouldn't he of heard about this "long planned" huge complex going only a couple of states away? Perhaps that should have been indicator number one. Of course realizing indicators INDICATES thinking, and we are talking about a Republican here. Nuff' said.

The Republican Plan Backwards

Posted 2/6/12 at 10:43am by jamie

John Boehner is here, in his district today, to unveil the Republican jobs plan:

U.S. House Speaker John Boehner, R-West Chester Twp., will talk at ThyssenKrupp Bilstein of America Inc. on Monday about the U.S. House Republicans’ jobs plan.

This is the second time a major Republican politician has promoted their jobs plans at ThyssenKrupp, a manufacturer of shock absorbers for automobiles. Ohio Gov. John Kasich visited the plant in June to promote JobsOhio, the nonprofit agency formed in 2011 responsible for the state’s job creation efforts.

While it's great that ThyssenKrupp is doing well, this area is still bleeding jobs at a record pace:

The news also came Friday that the Liz Claiborne distribution facility in West Chester Twp. will close Sept. 1, affecting 365 jobs.

The mass layoff notice is the fourth released for Butler County in 2012 by Ohio Department of Job and Family Services’ Office of Workforce Development. Job losses announced this year total 548 between Diversapack of Monroe, Liz Claiborne and Schneider Logistics Inc. of West Chester Twp.

Xanterra Parks & Resorts said last month it lost its contract to manage Hueston Woods Lodge in College Corner, but the 93 employees were offered their jobs with the new manager.

Mohawk Fine Papers of Hamilton closed in January, cutting another 137 jobs. SMART Papers of Hamilton will have cut more than 200 jobs if it closes this month. Pella Corp. of Fairfield also said in 2010 it would eliminate 198 jobs when it closes in 2012, but 40 jobs have already been shed by the company through attrition.

Then we got the typical plan of the GOP:

The Most Polarizing President Ever?

Posted 1/30/12 at 9:59am by jamie

"The Fix" in today's Washington Post offers up this headline:

Obama: The most polarizing president. Ever.

When you look at how divided this country is that could be easy to conclude, but is it President Obama's fault? First let's take a look at how they come to this conclusion:

For 2011, Obama’s third year in office, an average of 80 percent of Democrats approved of the job he was doing in Gallup tracking polls, as compared to 12 percent of Republicans who felt the same way. That’s a 68-point partisan gap, the highest for any president’s third year in office — ever. (The previous high was George W. Bush in 2007, when he had a 59 percent difference in job approval ratings.)

In 2010, the partisan gap between how Obama was viewed by Democrats versus Republicans stood at 68 percent; in 2009, it was 65 percent. Both were the highest marks ever for a president’s second and first years in office, respectively.

But consider what this President has had to go through. Before he even took the oath of office, one of the biggest voices proudly proclaimed that he wanted to see "this President fail". Now many try to say "Rush Limbaugh is just a radio personality", but that sentiment was quickly picked up by actual politicians, including Rick Santorum, who is currently a Republican presidential candidate. Furthermore, any Republican politician who tried to soften Rush's words ended up on his show apologizing to him.

Conservatives Rally Behind One Obama Idea

Posted 1/25/12 at 5:01pm by jamie

Honestly this is one of those "common sense" bills that should already be in the books:

Conservatives in the blogosphere found one small aspect of the president’s State of the Union address that they could praise: a bill banning insider trading by members of Congress.

“Send me a bill that bans insider trading by members of Congress and I will sign it tomorrow,” President Barack Obama said Tuesday night, to applause.

But perhaps conservatives should look to one of their own for stalling this legislation:

The Republican sponsor of the bill in the House, Financial Services Chairman Spencer Bachus of Alabama, had scheduled a markup of the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act for next week. But on Wednesday, Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia cancelled the markup session.

Cantor reportedly said he blocked the bill to give Congress more time to examine the issue. Critics of the move, however, fear that any delay could kill the bill entirely.

Congress constantly passes bills on a whim, but for some reason Cantor wants this one to have time for extra scrutiny. Why is that? Perhaps it's so they kind find ways to sneak loopholes into it or something.

There's no reason a bill can't make it to the President's desk within the next few days, except for certain members of Congress don't want it. I say if they don't feel they shouldn't have to follow the same laws as the rest of us then it's time to remove them from office. We can start with Eric Cantor.

BREAKING: Lamar Smith Puts SOPA On Hold

Posted 1/20/12 at 11:57am by jamie

Awesome!

U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) announced today that the House Judiciary Committee, which he heads, "will postpone consideration of the legislation until there is wider agreement on a solution." Smith added that he has taken critics' concerns "seriously."

"It is clear that we need to revisit the approach on how best to address the problem of foreign thieves that steal and sell American inventions and products," Smith said in today's statement.

The decision to wave the white flag on SOPA comes just hours after U.S. Senate leaders announced they had postponed their vote on the Protect IP Act (PIPA) scheduled for Tuesday. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said that the recent criticism on both SOPA and PIPA forced his hand, but Reid did acknowledge that he hopes to reach an agreement with the bill's foes "in the coming weeks."

This is what happens when the people speak and democracy takes action. Or, if you're Chris Dodd, it's an "abuse of power" by we the people.

Chris Dodd - Corporate Whore and Douchebag

Posted 1/20/12 at 11:53am by jamie

This man needs to go away for good:

Dodd mentioned rethinking the film industry's distant relationship with Silicon Valley, and said he would welcome a meeting between Internet companies and content providers in order to rework the bills. Unfortunately, there was no mention of his inflammatory comments before the blackout, including calling the Internet protests an "abuse of power" and accusing critics of punishing officials trying to fight "foreign criminals." Dodd may take a different tack in his next round of lobbying, but cutting out the alarmist rhetoric probably won't be part of it.

Calling the exercising of our Constitutional right to freedom of speech an "abuse of power"? An "abuse of power" is using your time in office to fatten your wallet. You should know something about this.

Now go away once and for all. America is much better off without assholes like you around.

BREAKING: Reid Postpones The PIPA Vote

Posted 1/20/12 at 10:00am by jamie

The following statement was just released by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid:

“In light of recent events, I have decided to postpone Tuesday’s vote on the PROTECT I.P. Act.

“There is no reason that the legitimate issues raised by many about this bill cannot be resolved. Counterfeiting and piracy cost the American economy billions of dollars and thousands of jobs each year, with the movie industry alone supporting over 2.2 million jobs. We must take action to stop these illegal practices. We live in a country where people rightfully expect to be fairly compensated for a day’s work, whether that person is a miner in the high desert of Nevada, an independent band in New York City, or a union worker on the back lots of a California movie studio.

“I admire the work that Chairman Leahy has put into this bill. I encourage him to continue engaging with all stakeholders to forge a balance between protecting Americans’ intellectual property, and maintaining openness and innovation on the internet. We made good progress through the discussions we’ve held in recent days, and I am optimistic that we can reach a compromise in the coming weeks.”

This is a good start, but we still must work to make sure there are significant changes to both PIPA and SOPA. The problem with these bills is that they were written by the music/movie industry. I don't have problems with interest groups suggesting what goes into bills, but for them to write them is a slap in the face to our democracy. Congress should act as a filter between what is right and what shreds the foundations of our democracy. In this case they failed.

SOPA Blackout Day

Posted 1/18/12 at 10:34am by jamie

Today is the day that countless websites are joining the fight against SOPA by blacking out their sites. I have decided to join in and do the same here at IntoxiNation.

The law being proposed in Congress is aptly termed the 'internet killer'. It's a bill with great opposition throughout the nation and being pushed through by big dollars from special interest groups. You can find out more here and contact your Representatives here to urge them to block this draconian piece of legislation.

If you cherish the freedom of information we have on the internet and don't want to fear legal action for the most innocent things you may do, then please join in the fight.

Republicans Still Don't Like Firefighters

Posted 1/13/12 at 12:45pm by jamie

As a former firefighter this pisses me off to no end:

Officials with the Federal Wildland Fire Service Association, representing thousands of federal firefighters, complained this week to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee after learning that some committee staffers ran an office pool to guess how many acres are burned by wildfires each year.

The contest, run since 2003 by veteran staffer Frank Gladics, was open mostly to Republican staffers on the House and Senate energy and appropriations committees that oversee federal firefighting operations. While no money exchanged hands, Gladics would bequeath the winner one of several hats in his office, including a Wizard hat, a “When Pigs Fly” hat and the mechanical “Holly-Jolly Christmas Hat.”

News of the contest was first reported last week by the environmental news service Grist.org, which quoted the committee’s Republican spokesman, Robert Dillon, as saying the contest was for the benefit of eastern lawmakers less familiar with wildfire season.

Frank Gladics used to work close with former Senator Conrad Burns. Remember this one from him?

"See that guy over there? He hasn't done a God-damned thing. They sit around. I saw it up on the Wedge fire and in northwestern Montana some years ago. It's wasteful. You probably paid that guy $10,000 to sit around. It's gotta change."

[SNIP]

"Bullshit!" Says Burns. "They're lazy, overpaid bums."

That was this sorry sack of shit talking about firefighters who had been battling huge wildfires for weeks.
