More On The Latest WSJ Poll
The Wall Street Journal/NBC poll which was released yesterday is very interesting. It comes from the Journal, which is one of the more conservative publications in the country. I have been diving into the actual findings of the poll and want to share them now (to view the actual poll, clickhere – Adobe Acrobat required). […]
The Wall Street Journal/NBC poll which was released yesterday is very
interesting. It comes from the Journal, which is one of the more conservative
publications in the country. I have been diving into the actual findings of the
poll and want to share them now (to view the actual poll, click

Question 1. Is the country headed in the right |
|||
10/05 | 9/05 | +/- | |
Yes | 28 | 32 | -4 |
No | 59 | 57 | +2 |
Ironically the lowest point in history for that question was in July of 1992,
during Bush seniors Presidency when 14% thought the country was heading in the
right direction as opposed to 71% who didn’t. The highest point was in September
of 2001 when 72% thought the country was heading in the right direction (which
was taken in the aftermath of 9/11).
Question 2. Do you approve of President Bush’s |
|||
10/05 | 9/05 | +/- | |
Approve | 39 | 40 | -1 |
Disapprove | 54 | 55 | +1 |
Not a big down slide, but a down slide none the less.
Question 4. What is your preference for the |
|||
10/05 | 7/05 | +/- | |
Republican | 39 | 40 | -1 |
Democrat | 48 | 45 | +3 |
This is the one that should send chills down the spine of Republican
incumbents hoping to seek reelection next year. Also worth noting is that most
political strategists agree that the outcome of mid-term elections are set 12
months before them, so this is the most critical time for next Novembers
election.
The following sheds some light on what peoples views of Harriet Miers are. I
am comparing the results to a previous poll asking the same questions about John
Roberts
Question 5. Based on what you know do you- |
|||
Miers | Roberts | +/- | |
Strongly Support | 11 | 22 | -11 |
Somewhat Support | 16 | 16 | 0 |
Somewhat Oppose | 10 | 10 | 0 |
Strongly Oppose | 11 | 10 | +1 |
Do Not Know Enough To Say | 51 | 41 | +10 |
Not Sure | 1 | 1 | 0 |
This question here shows the true issue at hand about Harriet Miers – No one
really knows who she is and people are not that trusting of Bush to put faith in
him on it.
There are a few other questions on the poll, which you can read at the link
above. These are the questions that highlight the most pertinent issues
surrounding Americans today and they should send a warning shot across the bow
of the GOP ship.
