I just finally got around reading the latest AP-IPSOS poll and the numbers are very interesting:

  • Bush Approval: 35% Disapproval: 60%
  • Country Heading In Right Direction: 26% Wrong Track: 70%
  • Handling of Iraq: 33% approve 64% disapprove
  • Congress Job Rating: 24% approval 73% disapproval

And the kicker of the entire poll:

  • And if the election for Congress were held today, would you want to see the Republicans or Democrats win control of Congress?
    • Republicans 32%
    • Democrats 52%

The Democrats now have a 20 point lead over Republicans for taking over this fall. This is huge. Remember during the 1994 Republican Revolution, they were poised to take over with only a 14% lead.

One thing should be noted on Iraq – this poll was conducted before the news of Zarqawi’s death so that may play into those numbers a little. It would be interesting if they ran another poll just to see how the perception changes, if any.
